TikTok deleted 1.4 million videos by Nigerians On The Platform in Q3 2023.

Bytedance-owned short video platform TikTok has disclosed the deletion of 1.4 million videos uploaded by Nigerian users in the third quarter of this year.

According to a report released by TikTok, Nigeria ranked among the top 50 nations where videos violating the platform’s policies originated in Q3, as reported by TikTok. During this period of assessment, a total of 136.5 million videos were removed globally.

In its recently published Community Guidelines Enforcement Report, TikTok highlighted that 90% of content removals for the quarter took place in the top 50 markets where policy violations were observed. The removed content allegedly violated one or more of TikTok’s policies, which address topics such as Integrity and Authenticity, Privacy and Security, Mental and Behavioral Health, Safety, and Civility.

As always, we’re vigilant against external threats and implementing precautions to safeguard the platform from fraudulent accounts and activities.

TikTok Stated

TikTok stated that it eliminated 73.6 million accounts identified as fraudulent or spam during the investigative period. “As always, we’re vigilant against external threats and implementing precautions to safeguard the platform from fraudulent accounts and activities. Periodic fluctuations in reported metrics in these regions may occur due to ongoing probing and attacks by these external threats on our systems.

“Nevertheless, we remain steadfast in our commitment to promptly identify and remove any accounts, content, or activities intended to manipulate users’ popularity on our platform. The company reported the removal of 348.7 million likes on videos. Furthermore, 7.2 billion fake follow requests and 211.3 million fake followers were also eliminated.

TikTok determined that the deleted likes, followers, and follow requests were attributed to ‘automated or inauthentic mechanisms,’ according to the platform.

In 2023, TikTok noted an increase in the deletion of ads due to violations of its advertising regulations, along with a decline in the removal of ads resulting from account-level measures in the third quarter. Research indicates that the number of ads taken down in Q3 2023 for policy violations rose to 1.3 million, up from 962,574 in Q2.

Despite these removals, TikTok’s user-generated revenue continues to rise, solidifying its position as one of the most popular social media platforms globally.

In 2023, TikTok recorded $3.8 billion in customer spending through the Apple App Store and Google Play Store, contributing to its total revenue of $10 billion, as estimated by Data.ai.

Data.ai reports that in Q1 2023, TikTok achieved the milestone of being the first mobile app to generate over $1 billion in global consumer spending within a single quarter. Having started the year with over $6.2 billion in customer spending, the social video app has added $3.8 billion to that figure throughout the year.
