10 African Startups To Pitch At The Africa Tech Summit Nairobi.

Africa Tech Summit Nairobi is thrilled to unveil the 10 outstanding African tech ventures set to present their innovative solutions to an esteemed audience of industry experts, investors, and fellow innovators on February 14-15.

Distinguished as a premier African tech event, Africa Tech Summit Nairobi serves as a hub for insights and networking within the African tech ecosystem. This event brings together influential figures such as tech leaders, Mobile Network Operators (MNOs), banks, international investors, entrepreneurs, government representatives, trade bodies, media, and leading ventures, fostering discussions and collaborations to drive investment and business in the African tech sphere.

Powered by the global account receivable and expense management solution Raenest, the upcoming sixth edition of the summit, scheduled for February, promises to connect over 1,000 African and international industry leaders, investors, and startups. This event stands as a testament to the growing importance of the African tech ecosystem on a global scale.

At the heart of Africa Tech Summit Nairobi lies the annual Investment Showcase, a pivotal component that grants selected ventures the opportunity to spotlight their cutting-edge products and services. This showcase serves as a platform for these ventures to engage with a diverse audience comprising local and international investors, as well as tech leaders, thereby facilitating valuable connections and potential investment opportunities.

Over 250 entries poured in from diverse countries across Africa, culminating in the selection of 10 startups that span various sectors, including fintech, agri-tech, e-commerce, Web3, and climate-tech. These selected ventures, each with a unique focus, are actively seeking funding within the range of US$500,000 to US$15 million.

Among the chosen startups, four hail from Kenya:

  1. Node Bio: Pioneering the use of cutting-edge plant science to develop crop treatments that effectively combat the adverse effects of climate change.
  2. Tausi App: A beauty tech company leveraging technology to connect beauticians with potential customers.
  3. Peercarbon: A climate fintech startup using granular emissions data and sustainable finance technology to empower African SMEs.
  4. URBANET: Dedicated to promoting international dialogue on development activities worldwide.

Meanwhile, four startups from Nigeria made the cut:

  1. Bingtellar: Building payment infrastructure for global citizens, including freelancers, remote workers, contractors, and businesses.
  2. Dukka: Digitizing payments and offering bookkeeping solutions to assist small businesses.
  3. Feegor: A B2B e-commerce company connecting SMEs to manufacturers and major wholesalers.
  4. Regxta: Making financial services accessible to underserved communities and micro-businesses in rural and peri-urban areas across Africa.

These innovative ventures collectively showcase the rich and diverse entrepreneurial landscape emerging from Africa, representing a wide spectrum of industries and technological advancements.

The remaining two startups selected for the showcase are Egypt’s Valu, the leading Buy Now Pay Later (BNPL) lifestyle-enabling fintech platform in the MENA region, and Uganda’s FutureLink Technologies, a digital marketplace simplifying financial access for individuals and facilitating payments for financial cooperatives.

“Despite the challenging funding landscape for African startups in 2023, the resilient spirit of entrepreneurship continues to thrive across the continent. We are excited to present these 10 pioneering ventures for the upcoming Investment Showcase. The primary goal of the showcase is to highlight and facilitate connections for these ventures with both local and global investors. We eagerly anticipate the participation of over 1,000 delegates at the summit, fostering collaborative efforts and driving investments to further fuel innovation and growth throughout the continent,” stated Henry Umunnakwe, Ecosystems and Sales Manager of Africa Tech Summit.
