Co-creation Hub (CcHub), in partnership with the Mastercard Foundation, has unveiled the second cohort of the Mastercard Foundation EdTech Fellowship. This program, part of a $15 million ed-tech accelerator initiative launched in Kenya and Nigeria, aims to support startups revolutionizing education in Africa.

In its second year, the fellowship continues to back innovative solutions in the educational technology space. According to a report by Disrupt Africa in February 2023, the program initially supported 12 startups from Nigeria and 12 from Kenya. This year, another set of 12 startups has been chosen to receive substantial industry support, which includes technical advice, mentorship, and learning science courses, along with access to a global network to enhance their growth and impact.

The diverse group of selected startups showcases a broad spectrum of solutions aimed at improving educational outcomes across Africa. Among them are Topset, a language learning solution; Exam Scholars, a platform for testing and learning; Data Entry Academy (DEA), which offers virtual courses and community support to job seekers; and Genti Media, which emphasizes African education through storytelling.

Other participants include Edusko, a platform that helps parents and students find schools; Harde Business, which provides on-demand professional development courses; Magic Lab Academy, offering animation skills training; and Proud African Roots, an interactive learning platform.

Completing the cohort are Vinsighte, an AI-enabled learning tool for the visually impaired; IM FLOW, a platform focusing on social-emotional learning; WIFICOMBAT, a career development platform; and Skill Up With Kahdsole, an online learning service.

Nissi Madu, managing partner at CcHub, expressed enthusiasm about the potential of these startups to transform the educational landscape in the region. “After a rigorous application and selection process, we are optimistic about what these startups can achieve. Following the success of our first cohort, we’re eager to see how the second cohort will contribute to better educational outcomes for students in Nigeria and beyond,” Madu stated.
