BasiGo Rwanda Awarded $225K Grant for Electric Bus Charging Upgrade.

BasiGo – bus on the move

BasiGo Rwanda, a pioneering startup dedicated to electrifying public transportation in Kigali, has received a significant boost. Ireme Invest, the green investment arm of the Rwanda Green Fund, has awarded BasiGo a recoverable grant of RWF 300 million (USD 225,000). This critical funding will be used to upgrade BasiGo’s electric bus charging infrastructure, paving the way for further expansion of its eco-friendly fleet.

The strategic investment will directly address a crucial need for BasiGo. The company is experiencing rapid growth in its fleet of electric buses operating within Kigali. To ensure continued efficient operations and cater to the increasing number of electric vehicles, a robust charging infrastructure is essential. The funding will go towards establishing a charging station capable of supporting at least 20 electric buses overnight.

BasiGo’s innovative approach to electric public transport goes beyond simply providing the vehicles. They offer a comprehensive solution for bus operators, including state-of-the-art electric buses, reliable charging infrastructure, and efficient maintenance services. Notably, BasiGo employs a unique financing model that makes electric buses more accessible. Operators can pay for the battery and charging services separately from the bus itself through a pay-as-you-go system. Additionally, BasiGo’s pay-as-you-drive financing model allows operators to acquire electric buses without the burden of a high upfront cost. This innovative approach removes a major barrier for operators transitioning to electric vehicles and fosters a more sustainable transportation ecosystem in Kigali.

The Rwandan Green Fund’s investment in BasiGo signifies a strong commitment to supporting clean technology initiatives within the country. By empowering BasiGo’s growth, the grant will contribute to reducing Kigali’s carbon footprint and promoting a cleaner, more sustainable future for public transportation.pen_sparktunesharemore_vert
