Ethio telecom EV

In a bold move to support Ethiopia’s expanding electric vehicle (EV) ecosystem, Ethio Telecom has launched its ultra-fast EV charging station along both sides of Bole to Megenagna Road in Addis Ababa. This initiative not only aligns with the company’s vision as a leading digital solutions provider but also reinforces its slogan, “Bringing New Possibilities.”

As EV adoption continues to rise in Ethiopia, the need for fast, efficient, and smart charging solutions has become more urgent than ever. To address this, the newly built charging station offers three distinct charging modalities, enabling it to power up to 32 electric vehicles simultaneously. Consequently, this ensures greater convenience and efficiency for drivers, reducing wait times and enhancing the overall charging experience.

Moreover, the station integrates cutting-edge Artificial Intelligence (AI) to optimize charging performance. The chargers can replenish batteries at a rate of up to 1 km of travel per second, depending on the vehicle’s capabilities. By intelligently adjusting charging speed and power delivery based on individual battery requirements and user preferences, the system guarantees faster, smarter, and more energy-efficient charging. As a result, drivers can enjoy a seamless and hassle-free experience every time they charge their vehicles.

Key Features of the Charging Station

To ensure maximum accessibility and efficiency, the station offers:

  • 8 Ultra-Fast Chargers (up to 600 kW) – Fully charges compatible vehicles in just 15 minutes, making it ideal for drivers on the go.
  • 12 Super-Fast Chargers (up to 500 kW) – Provides high-speed charging with optimal accessibility, allowing drivers to resume their journeys quickly.
  • Smart Pole Chargers – Integrated into Ethiopia’s smart city infrastructure, these Level II chargers serve as emergency charging points along key routes, ensuring drivers have access to power whenever needed.

Seamless Digital Payments via Telebirr

In addition to its advanced charging capabilities, the station operates 24/7 and is fully powered by telebirr SuperApp, Ethio Telecom’s digital payment platform. This allows for a smooth, cashless, and highly convenient transaction experience:

Instant Payments: Customers can pay for charging services quickly and effortlessly via telebirr.
Independent Charging: Drivers can charge their vehicles autonomously, eliminating the need for manual assistance.
Real-Time Monitoring: Thanks to smart online tracking, station management remains highly efficient via fiber, 4G, or 5G networks.

As Ethiopia takes significant strides toward a green economy and sustainable mobility, Ethio Telecom remains steadfast in its commitment to digital innovation and environmental responsibility. This ultra-fast EV charging station not only represents a transformative leap in Ethiopia’s transportation sector but also underscores Ethio Telecom’s role in pioneering a smarter, more connected, and eco-friendly future.
