AfriLabs, a leading pan-African network of technology and innovation hubs, has received a US$150,000 donation from the Airbnb Community Fund, marking a significant boost in its mission to empower entrepreneurs and catalyze inclusive innovation across Africa.
Founded in 2011, AfriLabs has grown into a vibrant network of over 500 innovation hubs spread across 53 African countries. The organization serves as a crucial backbone for the continent’s rapidly growing tech ecosystem, offering capacity-building programs, funding opportunities, policy advocacy, and platforms that connect startups, investors, academia, and public sector actors.
The Airbnb Community Fund, launched in 2020, is a philanthropic initiative committed to donating US$100 million by 2030 to strengthen communities around the world. Working in collaboration with Airbnb hosts and local partners, the fund supports causes that promote economic empowerment, environmental sustainability, mental health support, and efforts to combat abuse and exploitation.
The newly awarded, unrestricted funding of $150,000 gives AfriLabs the flexibility to deploy resources where they are most urgently needed. This includes scaling programs for entrepreneurship support, enhancing infrastructure for innovation hubs, fostering cross-border collaboration, and equipping young African innovators with the tools and skills to thrive in the global digital economy.
