An X account user by the username @tweetsbyAmaka posted a detailed thread yesterday, accusing the fintech founder of Bloc, Edmund Olotu, of owing her cousin an outrageous 16 months’ salary.

In the extensive thread, it was revealed that despite intervention through a lawyer and reaching a payment plan agreement in January, Edmund Olotu has yet to fulfill the agreement as of the time of the post on X. @tweetsbyAmaka shared screenshots of correspondence and outlined the continuous struggles her cousin faced, highlighting the financial and emotional toll of the unpaid wages.

The thread sparked widespread reactions on X, with one user commenting, “Every time people call out employers who owe salary, this one is for 16 months?” This sentiment echoes the frustrations of many employees in Nigeria, where salary disputes have become increasingly common among tech founders and startups.

Salary controversies are a persistent issue in the Nigerian startup employment scene. Due to inadequate labor laws and a judicial process that is both slow and expensive, employees often find it difficult to seek redress through official channels. As a result, many resort to social media platforms like X to call out employers publicly in hopes of resolving their disputes and bringing attention to their plight.

This latest incident underscores the urgent need for better enforcement of labor laws and more accessible legal recourse for employees in Nigeria. The ongoing situation with Bloc and its founder continues to unfold, with many watching closely to see if a resolution will be reached.
