The Nigerian Communications Commission (NCC) has officially commissioned its newly renovated Digital Industrial Park (DIP) in Kano State. This milestone event demonstrates the commission’s unwavering commitment to fostering innovation, digital entrepreneurship, and youth empowerment across Nigeria’s rapidly growing technology sector.

High-Profile Commissioning Ceremony

The commissioning ceremony took place yesterday with distinguished government officials in attendance. The event was led by the Honourable Minister of Communications, Innovation and Digital Economy, Dr. Bosun Tijani. He was joined by Deputy Governor of Kano State, Alhaji Aminu Gwarzo—representing the Executive Governor—and the Honourable Minister of Youth Development, Ayodele Olawande.

Restoration Partnership with IHS Towers Nigeria

The Kano DIP has been successfully restored with crucial support from IHS Towers Nigeria. This partnership came following a previous incident of vandalism that had affected the facility. The restored park now stands as a testament to collaborative efforts in Nigeria’s digital transformation journey.

Vision for Digital Innovation Hub

The renovated facility is strategically positioned as a comprehensive hub for digital innovation. The park’s primary mission focuses on equipping young Nigerians with essential skills and providing access to critical resources. This approach enables emerging entrepreneurs to transform innovative ideas into commercially viable solutions.

Speaking at the commissioning event, Dr. Tijani emphasized the park’s significance:

“This renovated Digital Innovation Park represents a new opportunity and a gateway for the young people of Kano to access skills, resources and opportunities to shape their future and contribute to our innovation economy.”

Traditional Honor Recognizes Digital Leadership

In recognition of his continued advocacy for digital transformation across Nigeria, Minister Dr. Tijani received a prestigious traditional title. He was conferred with the honor of Sarkin Yakin Dijital Na Kano—Champion of Kano’s Digital Advancement.

Expressing gratitude for this recognition, Dr. Tijani stated:

“I am deeply humbled to be conferred with the title of Sarkin Yakin Dijital Na Kano — Champion of Kano’s Digital Advancement today. This recognition was not just personal but reflective of the collective work we are doing to empower young people through technology and innovation.”

Collaborative Effort for Youth Empowerment

The Minister also highlighted the importance of collaborative efforts in making the park’s revival possible:

“We all have a role to play in safeguarding spaces like this, because by protecting them, we protect the dreams and ambitions of millions of young Nigerians.”

National Digital Economy Strategy

The NCC’s Digital Industrial Park initiative aligns with Nigeria’s broader national strategy for digital economy development. This comprehensive approach ensures that the country’s digital transformation leaves no one behind, creating inclusive access to digital opportunities across all regions.

The Kano DIP represents a significant step forward in Nigeria’s commitment to building a robust digital ecosystem that empowers young entrepreneurs and drives economic growth through technology and innovation.
