Bode Abifarin has stepped down as the Chief Operating Officer (COO) at Flutterwave, concluding a significant tenure at the fintech behemoth. Flutterwave’s founder and CEO, Olugbenga Agboola, shared his complex feelings about her departure, stating, “With a blend of happiness, pride, and a hint of nostalgia, we bid adieu to an extraordinary member of our team.”

Before joining Flutterwave in 2018, Abifarin had a prolific career at KPMG Nigeria, where she dedicated over 15 years. Her time at Flutterwave was marked by notable achievements, especially her contribution to the company’s growth into a unicorn, reflecting its valuation at over a billion dollars. During her tenure, she also adeptly navigated the company through challenging controversies in 2022, demonstrating her formidable leadership qualities.

As Abifarin embarks on her next journey, she plans to pursue her passion for teaching and mentoring, aiming to influence and shape the next generation of global business leaders. “In my forthcoming phase, I look forward to sharing more through both my voice and my writing. I will continue to support new businesses and focus on building, teaching, and education. I’ll keep you updated on my journey,” Abifarin shared about her future plans.

Moreover, Abifarin has recently joined the board of Women in Tech® Nigeria, reaffirming her commitment to bolstering the tech ecosystem and advancing the empowerment of women in the field. Agboola expressed optimism for potential future collaborations, noting that Flutterwave is “sending her off to pursue greatness, rather than saying farewell.” He also expressed eagerness for the significant contributions Abifarin is poised to make in her upcoming ventures.

This news follows the departure of Flutterwave’s former Chief Financial Officer (CFO), Oneal Bhambani, who exited the company in November after an 18-month term, underscoring a time of executive transitions within the company.
