Safeboda, a prominent ride-hailing service in Uganda, has introduced an electric motorcycle option, “Electric Boda,” to its platform. This new addition enhances their lineup with an environmentally friendly choice, aligning with global sustainability trends.
Motorcycles, commonly referred to as boda bodas, are a ubiquitous and economical means of transportation across Ugandan cities. However, the conventional gasoline-powered bodas are known for their significant contributions to air and noise pollution.
The electric motorcycles offered by SafeBoda promise to deliver the familiar convenience of traditional boda-bodas but with drastically lower emissions. “The launch of Electric Boda brings multiple advantages,” remarked a spokesperson for SafeBoda. “Riders will enjoy cleaner air, quieter roads, and possibly even lower costs on fares thanks to decreased maintenance expenses for the company.” Additionally, the new motorcycles are expected to improve ride efficiency, thus enhancing the overall user experience.
This initiative is part of SafeBoda’s reinvigorated commitment to the Ugandan market. The company has also recently resumed operations in Nairobi, Kenya, after a three-year break attributed to a challenging business climate post-pandemic. Furthermore, after withdrawing from the Nigerian market in late 2020 to focus on profitability and product expansion, SafeBoda is now prioritizing its efforts in Uganda.
