On Thursday afternoon, Kachifu Inuwa, the Director General of the National Information Technology Development Agency, and Trixie LohMirmand, the CEO of GITEX organizer Kaoun, signed a Memorandum of Understanding to bring GITEX Africa, the continent’s biggest tech showcase, to Nigeria in 2025. This agreement marks a significant milestone for Nigeria’s technology sector and highlights the country’s growing influence in the African tech landscape.

Although they have not confirmed the specific dates, a source with direct knowledge of the event informed Techmoonshot that organizers expect the showcase to take place in September 2025, spanning across Lagos and Abuja. “We’re not planning to bring the same GITEX happening around the world. We want to bring a unique formula that aligns with the national strategy of Nigeria,” said LohMirmand, emphasizing the tailored approach they intend to take for the Nigerian edition of GITEX Africa. This strategy aims to ensure that the event not only showcases global technological advancements but also resonates deeply with local aspirations and developmental goals.

Kachifu Inuwa highlighted the broader economic implications of this event, stating, “President Tinubu is big and loud on economic diversification, and you cannot trade in isolation. The President has mandated us to facilitate parts of this diversification.” This directive underscores the administration’s commitment to leveraging technology as a catalyst for economic transformation and diversification.

Nigeria, as the continent’s most populous nation, boasts a vibrant and rapidly evolving technology scene. Hosting GITEX Africa in Nigeria presents a substantial opportunity for both the continent and the world to witness the country’s innovative capabilities and entrepreneurial spirit. It also provides a platform for Nigerian startups to gain international exposure, attract investment, and forge strategic partnerships.

Organizers expect GITEX Africa in Nigeria to draw thousands of participants, including tech enthusiasts, industry leaders, investors, and policymakers, creating a dynamic environment for networking, knowledge exchange, and collaboration. This event will not only highlight Nigeria’s technological prowess but also contribute to the overall growth and development of the African tech ecosystem.
