Content creators in Nigeria can now earn money from ad revenue on Facebook and Instagram, as the country has become eligible for monetization.
Meta, the parent company of Facebook and Instagram, announced this change on Thursday, June 27. Previously, Nigerian content creators couldn’t access Facebook monetization unless they had page management based in an eligible country. However, with this new development, Nigerian creators can now monetize their content directly.
In 2023, content creators in the United States, Canada, Australia, and South Korea became the pioneers of “Ads on Reels,” a performance-based monetization program where payouts are determined by reel viewership.
With this new development, creators in Nigeria can now monetize their content and earn money through various methods on Facebook, including in-stream ads, live ads, ads on reels, bonuses, and subscriptions.
This move follows an earlier announcement by Meta in March when Nick Clegg, President of Global Affairs at Meta, visited Nigeria.

“Monetization won’t be limited to just Instagram. Nigerian creators eligible to use our monetization products will be able to also monetize on Facebook as well,” Meta said in March. “We’re working diligently to make these monetization features available for Nigerian creators in June, and our team is dedicated to a swift rollout.”
This development opens new avenues for Nigerian content creators, enabling them to generate income and expand their reach on Meta’s platforms. The inclusion of Nigeria in Meta’s monetization program reflects the company’s commitment to supporting creators worldwide and fostering a more inclusive digital economy. As Nigerian creators begin to leverage these monetization tools, we can expect to see a surge in innovative and engaging content emerging from the region.
