The Ministry of Communication, Digital Technology and Innovations (MoCDTI) has launched a two-day strategic planning workshop with the Parliamentary Select Committee on Information and Communications, focusing on the Ministry’s 2025 program and that of its affiliated agencies.

Held with the goal of fostering collaboration and alignment on Ghana’s national digital agenda, the workshop brings together key government agencies including:

  • Cyber Security Authority (CSA)
  • Ghana Post

This high-level engagement underscores the Ministry’s push to advance Ghana’s position as a regional digital leader by streamlining strategic activities and ensuring legislative support.

Hon. Samuel Nartey George Outlines Vision for Ghana’s Digital Future

Hon. Samuel Nartey George (MP), Minister for Communication, Digital Technology and Innovations, reaffirmed the Ministry’s commitment to transparency, collaboration, and forward-thinking governance. He emphasized the critical role of Parliament in supporting legislation that underpins Ghana’s digital transformation.

“We are working on 15 new laws to support the digital economy, strengthen cybersecurity, and enhance data protection. These legislative proposals will be submitted to Parliament in phases,” said Hon. George.

Major Policy Shift: NITA to Become a Regulatory Body

A significant policy development was announced during the workshop: the National Information Technology Agency (NITA) will transition into a regulatory authority, with all operational and service delivery responsibilities to be transferred to a newly established entity. This move aims to ensure better governance and improve efficiency in managing government IT infrastructure.

Public-Private Partnerships to Power Digital Skills Development

The Minister also shared updates on the One Million Coders Initiative, which aims to build digital skills and create employment opportunities for Ghanaian youth. Through strategic public-private partnerships (PPP), the Ministry is collaborating with global tech giants such as:

  • Huawei
  • MTN Ghana
  • Amazon Web Services (AWS)
  • Oracle

These partnerships are designed to deliver specialized ICT training and foster innovation across the digital ecosystem.

Expanding Grassroots Digital Literacy and Community Infrastructure

Highlighting the need for inclusive growth, Hon. George called on Members of Parliament to support efforts to refurbish Community Information Centers (CICs) and expand local digital training centers. These initiatives aim to promote digital literacy at the grassroots level and bridge the digital divide across Ghana’s regions.

Workshop Participants and Strategic Focus

The workshop was attended by:

  • Mr. Alexander Yaw Arphul, Chief Director of the Ministry
  • Members of the Parliamentary Select Committee on Information and Communications
  • Directors and technical staff from key Ministry-affiliated agencies

Together, the participants are charting a path to ensure that Ghana’s digital infrastructure, legislation, and institutional frameworks are well-coordinated and responsive to national priorities.

This strategic engagement reflects the Ministry’s unwavering commitment to position Ghana at the forefront of Africa’s digital transformation through:

  • Stronger legislative backing
  • Institutional reforms
  • Strategic partnerships
  • Inclusive training programs

By aligning stakeholders and driving innovation, Ghana is building a resilient digital economy poised for long-term growth and inclusive development.
