October is the month the tech events in Africa October 2026 calendar gets serious. Techne Summit Alexandria wraps its flagship edition today, Nairobi hosts a boutique fintech summit this week, Lagos gets a design-and-developer run from October 14 to 17, and then the schedule peaks in the last week of the month, when Moonshot by TechCabal, AI Expo Africa and a handful of other events land within days of each other.
Whether you’re raising, hiring, selling to enterprise, designing, or simply trying to meet the people shaping the continent’s tech scene, here’s what’s on, who it’s for, and how to decide where to spend your time and money. If you’re hunting for funding rather than rooms to walk into, read our companion piece on tech opportunities for founders and individuals in Africa this October.

The big ones
Moonshot by TechCabal — October 28–29, Lagos
The flagship of the month. Now in its fourth edition and moving to the National Theatre in Lagos, Moonshot runs under the theme “Courage & Conviction — Building for a New World,” with nine content tracks. TechCabal says last year’s edition drew more than 5,700 participants, over 200 speakers and delegates from 39 countries, and it expects this one to be bigger thanks to the larger venue, as reported in its Nairobi mixer announcement.
What’s confirmed so far:
- Speakers announced include representatives from OpenAI Africa, Flutterwave and Nigeria’s securities regulator, per the first speaker announcement.
- Sponsors: headline sponsor Grey, with support from Breet, Flutterwave, OPay and Raenest.
- New this year: a B2B matchmaking experience powered by Hackapath, designed to connect founders, investors and enterprise leaders based on stated goals. Organisers have also promised a week of programming with side mixers and co-located events across Lagos.
- Tickets: on sale at moonshot.techcabal.com. An early-bird discount of 20% was advertised earlier, so check whether it’s still live.
Why go: the highest density of founders, funders and regulators in a single room this month. The new matchmaking layer should help you avoid the usual aimless lobby wandering. Who should skip: pure engineers looking for deep technical content. The dev-focused events below suit you better.
AI Expo Africa — October 28–29, Johannesburg
Billed as the continent’s largest enterprise AI and automation trade show, now in its ninth edition at Sandton (venue listings vary between the Sandton Convention Centre and Hilton Sandton, so confirm your hall). StartupBlink’s event guide puts attendance at around 3,500 delegates, mostly decision-makers, with a startup zone, investor activity and a Women in AI gathering.
Why go: if you sell AI into banks, telcos, retailers or government, this is a procurement-heavy room. Case studies matter more than keynotes. Heads-up: it overlaps directly with Moonshot, so you will need to choose or send a split team.
Inspire Africa Conference — October 14–15, Lagos
The fourth edition of the product-focused event from the Innovate Africa Foundation, at Eko Hotel and Suites. It leans on teachings from the Silicon Valley Product Group and promises upskilling sessions, networking, funding pathways for founders and job-readiness training with WorkNigeria. See the VC4A listing and the official site.
Why go: product managers, designers and early-career technologists who want practical craft rather than hype.
Untitled Designer Conference (UDC) 2026 — October 16–17, Lagos
West Africa’s biggest design conference returns for its fifth edition at Regal Hall, Ikeja (Plot A3C, Ikosi Road, Oregun), under the theme “Human by Design: Where Culture, Code & Creativity Meet.” According to The Creatives’ Note, the event is built for product and brand designers, engineers, founders, studio owners and the creatives shaping Africa’s future, and leans on real project stories and practical, hands-on sessions rather than theory.
A bit of history helps you gauge the scale. The conference began as a Lagos gathering of roughly 700 people at Zone Tech Park and has grown into a multi-year fixture. The 2024 edition ran under the theme “Beyond the Canvas” with a Google type-design workshop on the programme, and the 2025 edition, “Creative Possibilities, Designing with Intelligence,” was a one-day event at the same Regal Hall venue, per the organiser’s site. Tickets have been promoted via udcom.space, and the organiser maintains a LinkedIn page.
Heads-up on dates: sources disagree. The Creatives’ Note describes a two-day event on Friday and Saturday, October 16–17, while the 10Times listing shows a single day on October 16 and claims 5,000-plus attendees and 40-plus sessions across four tracks. That attendance and session count may be carried over from earlier editions and I couldn’t confirm it independently, and the organiser’s own site still showed its 2025 page when I checked. Confirm the schedule and ticket tiers with the organisers before booking.
Why go: design is where a lot of African fintech and consumer products win or lose. If you’re a product designer, brand designer, front-end engineer or a founder who needs to hire design talent, this is the most relevant room in Lagos that week.
Africa Fintech and Banking Summit — October 8–9, Nairobi
A deliberately smaller, boutique summit aimed at central bankers, policymakers, banking and fintech leaders and investors. Topics span digital banking, payments, financial inclusion, open banking, embedded finance and cybersecurity, according to the Mojaloop Foundation’s event notice. The organisers emphasise peer-to-peer discussion over large-scale presentations.
Why go: you want regulator face time without the noise of a mega-conference.
Startup and investor events
Techne Summit Alexandria (Oct 3–5, wrapping up today). Held at the Bibliotheca Alexandrina and positioned as the “Start” edition for early-stage startups, students and ecosystem builders, with more than 90 workshops across the Cairo and Alexandria legs, AI-supported matchmaking and over $1M in potential prizes and investment, per Menastartup Digest and Ahram Online. The Startup World Cup regional qualifier took place on October 4, with the winner heading to the global final in San Francisco for a shot at a $1M investment from Pegasus Tech Ventures. If you missed it, watch for the winner announcement and for next year’s dates on the Techne Summit site.
OffChart NXT (Oct 22–23, Port Harcourt). The evolution of the long-running #StartupSouth conference, aimed at opportunities beyond Africa’s usual startup hubs. Organisers report over 1,500 attendees annually and more than 30 cities represented, with a startup challenge, exhibition space and structured investor access. A good bet if you’re building outside Lagos or want to understand Nigeria’s southern markets.
PAAN Summit (Oct 28–29, Nairobi). The inaugural Africa Borderless Creative Economy Summit, bringing together agencies, brands, freelancers and technology partners. Listed with venue to be confirmed, so verify before booking travel.
Cameroon International Tech Summit (Oct 15–17, Yaoundé). A rare Central African date on the calendar, listed on dev.events. Details are thin online, so confirm directly with the organisers.
For developers
October is also DevFest season, the community-run Google Developer Groups events that pop up in secondary cities. The ones I could confirm via the dev.events Africa directory:
- PyCon Africa, October 7–11, Kampala
- CYSEC Kenya 2026, October 7, Nairobi
- Test Automation Innovation Summit, October 14, Johannesburg
- AWS Community Day Lagos, October 16–17
- DevFest Jos, October 17–18
- DevFest Uyo, October 21
- PyHo 2026, October 23–24, Ho, Ghana
- DevFest Mbarara, October 23–24, Uganda
- Kubernetes Community Days Nigeria, October 24, Lagos
- DevFest Owerri, DevFest Maiduguri and DevFest Harare, October 24
- droidcon Uganda, October 30–31, Kampala
- WordCamp Johannesburg, October 30
- DevFest Arusha, October 30–31, Tanzania
- DevFest Kisii and Data and AI Community Day (Johannesburg), October 31
Next up right after the month ends: DevFest Nairobi on November 1, Devoxx Morocco on November 4–5, and Droidcon and Fluttercon Kenya on November 5–6.
Tip: community events are cheap, and often free or low cost, and they are where junior engineers get hired. If you’re job-hunting, a DevFest in your region beats a flashy conference ticket.
Security and policy
- Ghana’s National Cyber Security Awareness Month runs for all of October, led by the Cyber Security Authority with sponsors from the private sector. Expect public events, workshops and campaigns throughout.
- Ethiopia’s 3rd Cybersecurity Awareness Month Conference is on October 29–30 at the Commercial Bank of Ethiopia in Addis Ababa, listed on the CIO Africa events page.
- CYSEC Kenya on October 7 in Nairobi kicks off the month for Kenyan security teams.
Online and hybrid
- GSMA MENA Ignite Open Gateway Hackathon. Online through October 30, targeting builders across the Middle East and North Africa using network APIs and AI. Winners present to telecom executives at MWC Doha on November 8–10, with travel and accommodation covered.
- Tech Hub Africa Hackathon. Final submissions are due October 31 (11:59 PM GMT) for builders aged 15 to 25, with a $1,000 prize pool and a focus on infrastructure and public utility problems.
More hackathons, grants and accelerator deadlines are in our October opportunities guide.

How to choose: a quick decision guide
You’re a founder raising money. Moonshot is the priority. Pair it with OffChart NXT if you’re outside Lagos, or the Africa Fintech and Banking Summit if you’re in payments or banking infrastructure. Book meetings in advance through the matchmaking tool.
You’re selling to enterprise. AI Expo Africa. If you can’t be in Johannesburg, target the Moonshot side events where corporates are sponsoring.
You’re a designer or design-minded founder. Untitled Designer Conference in Lagos on October 16–17 (confirm the dates), then dEX Design Conference in Accra on November 12–14.
You’re an engineer or junior developer. Pick one DevFest or community day near you, plus Inspire Africa if you’re moving into product. Cheaper, closer, more useful for hiring.
You’re a policy, security or compliance professional. Africa Fintech and Banking Summit, plus Ghana’s and Ethiopia’s cybersecurity awareness events.
You’re a creator or agency. PAAN Summit in Nairobi, then CANEX WKND in Lagos in early November.
You can only afford one trip. Lagos gives you the most for your money. Mid-month, Inspire Africa, Untitled Designer Conference and AWS Community Day cluster between October 14 and 17. In the last week, Moonshot lands on the 28th and 29th, with OffChart NXT in Port Harcourt just before it. Johannesburg is the better choice only if enterprise AI sales is your core business.
