Angola Cables, a major player in global network services, now handles over 70% of Africa’s internet and data traffic, having recently hit a record peak of 18,448 Tbps. This milestone underscores the company’s growing influence in the continent’s digital infrastructure. The surge in traffic is driven by increased digital content consumption, expanding cloud services, and the rising demand for low-latency connectivity across Africa.
The company also benefited from recent cable faults in Africa and the Red Sea, which diverted significant traffic to its networks. Hyperscalers and content providers increasingly use Angola Cables’ South Atlantic Cable System (SACS) and other subsea cables to connect to global destinations at lower latencies, as noted by Rui Faria, Executive Board Member and Chief Commercial Officer.
The company’s network now carries over 20% of data traffic between North and South America via the Monet Cable. Ranked 24th globally by the Center for Applied Internet Data Analysis (CAIDA), Angola Cables is the only African operator in the top 50 worldwide. This ranking highlights the company’s extensive connectivity across over 80,000 km of subsea cables.
