The inaugural CyBlack Conference 2024, held on August 22, 2024, at the GM Digital Security Hub (DiSH) in Manchester, concluded with resounding success, marking a significant milestone in the cybersecurity community. The event successfully brought together over 100 local and international cybersecurity professionals, enthusiasts, and industry leaders to explore how “Inclusion as a Driver for Growth” can enhance innovation and collaboration in cybersecurity.
Under this unifying theme, the conference featured a series of thought-provoking sessions and dynamic networking opportunities. Proudly sponsored by CybariK, David Ade Academy, Cyber Aware Group, and TATTEL, the event received additional support from partners DiSH, Cykea, NQB Recruitment Solutions, Fezzant, and Techmoonshot.
To kick off the event, the conference commenced with a welcome address by Simbiat Sadiq, CyBlack Co-founder and conference host. She not only introduced the conference theme but also underscored the critical need for inclusive practices to drive growth and innovation within the cybersecurity industry. Furthermore, Simbiat emphasized how diverse perspectives can contribute to the development of robust security solutions and foster a more collaborative environment.
Following this, the keynote speech by Ike Marizu, UK Lead for Blacks in Cybersecurity, delved into how the industry can leverage inclusion for a thriving cybersecurity future. Ike highlighted that, in building an inclusive future, it’s essential to commit to change. He emphasized, “We must pledge to prioritize diversity and inclusion, setting measurable goals for representation, and holding leadership accountable for progress.”
In addition to the keynote, several other educational sessions provided valuable insights, including one by Faith Obafemi, who presented on the “Challenges of Digital Inaccessibility and Its Security Implications.” These sessions further deepened the audience’s understanding of the intersection between inclusion and cybersecurity.
As the conference drew to a close, Dr. Iretioluwa Akerele, one of CyBlack’s co-founders, delivered heartfelt closing remarks, expressing gratitude to all participants, sponsors, volunteers, and partners. “The success of CyBlack Conference 2024 underscores the importance of inclusion as a driver for growth and innovation in cybersecurity.
