Starlink has officially launched its third-generation (Gen 3) hardware kit in Nigeria, marking a significant step forward in delivering high-speed satellite internet access across the country. With improved performance, broader coverage, and cutting-edge features, the Gen 3 kit is designed to meet the growing demand for reliable connectivity in both urban and underserved rural areas.
The newly released Gen 3 kit features a sleek, compact design measuring 43.4 x 298.6 x 120.4 mm, making it more space-efficient and aesthetically adaptable for residential use. At the heart of the kit is support for the latest Wi-Fi 6 standard (802.11 a/b/g/n/ac/ax), which ensures faster speeds, lower latency, and better performance in high-traffic environments. It also includes a powerful tri-band 4×4 MU-MIMO radio system that enhances signal quality and data throughput across multiple devices simultaneously.
For users who require hardwired connections, the Gen 3 router is equipped with two latching Ethernet LAN ports hidden beneath a removable cover. This feature allows for greater flexibility in home networking setups and enables users to directly connect gaming consoles, smart TVs, or workstations for optimized speed and stability.
The Gen 3 kit is designed to cover up to 297 square meters (approximately 3,200 square feet), making it suitable for most standard-sized homes and even small commercial spaces. It is tailored to support a wide range of internet-dependent activities, including high-definition streaming, video conferencing, online education, gaming, and remote work — all with minimal setup time. The package arrives pre-configured for simple installation, allowing users to get online within minutes of unboxing.
Starlink’s expansion of its latest hardware into Nigeria underscores the company’s commitment to closing the connectivity gap across Africa. With limited access to fiber-optic infrastructure in many regions, satellite-based internet services like Starlink present a practical and scalable solution for enhancing digital inclusion. By rolling out the Gen 3 hardware, Starlink aims to deliver faster, more reliable internet to communities where traditional broadband options remain scarce or inconsistent.
This move comes as part of Starlink’s broader strategy to penetrate key African markets and meet the rising need for stable internet services across sectors such as education, healthcare, agriculture, and entrepreneurship.
