African healthcare innovation incubator Pishon Health has recently unveiled its Social Innovation Incubator program. This initiative is tailored to support innovators dedicated to creating tech-driven healthcare solutions by providing them with comprehensive access to training, mentorship, and potential funding opportunities.

The newly launched 12-week program is structured to assist healthcare innovators in crafting, refining, and scaling their pioneering solutions. Participants will receive mentorship from seasoned professionals in the healthcare and technology sectors, along with advisory services and access to capital investments worth up to US$100,000.

Pishon Health’s incubator aims to address the unique challenges faced by startups in the healthcare sector, particularly those developing locally relevant solutions. The program serves as a dynamic catalyst, nurturing and advancing the next generation of African innovators who are poised to transform the healthcare landscape.

Mopelola Lauretta Ajegbile, the founder of Pishon Health, emphasized the critical need for such initiatives. “Africa faces significant healthcare challenges, from limited access to essential services to the burden of infectious and non-infectious diseases. Yet, amidst these challenges, the continent is a hub of creativity and innovation,” she stated. “Our incubator program is designed to bridge the gap between innovation and implementation, nurturing these critical solutions developed by our talented entrepreneurs and empowering them to thrive and expand their reach.”

The program not only focuses on technical development but also aims to instill a robust entrepreneurial mindset among participants. This is achieved through an intensive curriculum that covers topics ranging from business model creation, market analysis, and user experience design to regulatory compliance and fundraising strategies.

Moreover, Pishon Health is committed to fostering a collaborative environment where innovators can connect with like-minded peers, industry leaders, and potential investors. This network is vital for sharing ideas, challenges, and best practices, which is crucial for the rapid advancement of healthcare technologies.

By the end of the incubator, participants are expected to have a fully functional prototype or be at an advanced stage of product development, ready for commercialization. Additionally, successful innovations may receive further support from Pishon Health and its partners, including follow-on funding and market access facilitation.

“Our ultimate goal is to create a thriving ecosystem of healthcare innovation in Africa,” added Ajegbile. “Through the Social Innovation Incubator, we are taking concrete steps towards realizing this vision, supporting innovators who are not just tackling immediate health issues but are also building the foundations for a healthier future across the continent.”
