AMAKA Studio, a New York-based tech startup specializing in the creator economy and digital storytelling has successfully raised $2 million in seed funding, propelling its mission to empower Black and African creators on a global scale. The funding round was led by Equitane, with significant contributions from Morgan Stanley Inclusive Ventures Lab, Silverbacks Holdings, and a network of angel investors.

Founded in 2021 by Adaora Oramah, AMAKA Studio has evolved from its initial focus on celebrating Pan-African womanhood to becoming a vibrant media-tech platform that offers creators the resources they need to monetize their work effectively and build connections with major brands. The platform has garnered attention from global entities, collaborating with well-known brands such as Nike and Disney.

The newly secured funding will primarily enhance AMAKA Gigs, a platform specifically designed to facilitate direct connections between Black and African creators and brands. This innovative tool will simplify the process of securing commissions, ensuring that creators are compensated fairly for their contributions.

Furthermore, AMAKA Studio plans to integrate enhanced payment solutions, such as digital wallets, to tackle common compensation issues within the global creator economy, facilitating seamless transactions for users.

In addition to operational enhancements, AMAKA Studio aims to launch targeted marketing campaigns to bolster user acquisition and engagement within its growing community. By addressing the longstanding inequities faced by underrepresented creators, AMAKA is committed to promoting financial inclusion, representation, and equity.

Adaora Oramah, CEO of AMAKA Studio, emphasized the significance of this funding, stating, “This investment enables us to build a comprehensive ecosystem for creators to thrive. We aim to compensate Black and African creators while offering brands the opportunity to source and collaborate with diverse talent, driving equality and economic impact.”

With this funding milestone, AMAKA Studio is poised to further solidify its position in the creator economy, creating pathways for a dynamic community that has historically been underserved. This strategic investment not only strengthens AMAKA’s operational capacity but also underlines its dedication to fostering an inclusive environment where all creators can flourish.
