Last week, Dr. Aminu Maida, Executive Vice Chairman and CEO of the Nigerian Communications Commission (NCC), signed a grant agreement with SWEDFUND alongside the Swedish Ambassador to Nigeria, Annika Hahn-Englund. This partnership will fund the Crowdsourcing Quality of Experience (QoE) Project, a bold initiative to improve Nigeria’s telecommunications services.
The project will harness real-time consumer data to track network performance, service reliability, and overall user experience. Instead of relying solely on telecom providers’ reports, the NCC will collect direct feedback from consumers to gain clearer insights into how well networks function. This data-driven approach will enhance transparency and improve decision-making in the sector.
With this initiative, the NCC will actively monitor network performance, quickly identifying and resolving issues like dropped calls, slow internet speeds, weak signals, and network congestion. By taking a proactive stance, the commission will ensure that telecom providers maintain high service standards and continuously improve their infrastructure.

By holding telecom operators accountable, the NCC will push for better service delivery, benefiting millions of Nigerians who depend on mobile and internet connectivity for work, education, and daily life. Strengthening Nigeria’s telecom sector will also help bridge the digital divide, especially in rural and underserved areas where reliable internet access remains a challenge.
Beyond Nigeria, this initiative could serve as a blueprint for other African nations aiming to enhance their telecommunications infrastructure. As digital transformation accelerates across the continent, this model can help set new standards for quality regulation, consumer protection, and data-driven policymaking.
This agreement marks a major step forward in Nigeria’s push to improve its digital economy, drive fair competition among telecom providers, and ensure consumers receive top-quality service.
