To celebrate its 100th anniversary and build on the success of previous editions, TotalEnergies is launching the 2024 ‘Startupper of the Year’ Challenge across 32 African countries.
For this milestone edition, commemorating the company’s centennial, 100 entrepreneurs from across Africa will be honored in three distinct prize categories.
During a press conference, Adesua Adewole, Total Energies’ General Manager of Country Services, emphasized that the competition underscores TotalEnergies’ commitment to fostering innovation and entrepreneurship, and to supporting the socio-economic growth of the African nations where it operates.
Adewole highlighted that the Challenge bolsters local communities by aiding the continent’s most innovative entrepreneurs in implementing their projects.
“This 2024/2025 edition of the Challenge will support and reward young entrepreneurs aged 18 to 35 residing in Nigeria who have either a new business project or a startup less than three years old, operating in any industry,” she stated. A local jury consisting of experts, business leaders, startup ecosystem stakeholders, local sustainability advocates, and representatives from TotalEnergies Nigeria will select three winners.
The prize categories are: ‘Innov’Up’ for Best Entrepreneur, ‘Cycle’Up’ for Best Project in the circular economy, and ‘Power’Up’ for Best Project in sustainable, affordable energy. Additionally, four more projects in the Power’Up category will be chosen by an international jury.
Adewole noted that each project submission will be evaluated based on four criteria: relevance to sustainable development challenges, innovation, feasibility, development potential, and respect for gender equality, including women’s involvement in the project.
Each winner will be titled “Startupper of the Year by TotalEnergies” and will receive a monetary prize of Eight Million Naira (N8,000,000), personalized support, and a promotional campaign to boost their project’s visibility.
Registration for the Challenge opens on May 13 online, with a deadline of June 18 for submissions.
