Togolese electric mobility startup PickApp is preparing to launch a pilot of its electric vehicle (EV) ownership and ride-sharing platform in Lomé, the nation’s capital. Founded in 2023 by siblings Joseph, Joshua, and Rebecca Olurin, the startup seeks to transform Africa’s transportation landscape by increasing access to sustainable and affordable mobility solutions.
The platform’s core offerings include a pay-as-you-go (PAYG) EV ownership service, allowing individuals to purchase electric vehicles incrementally, and a ride-sharing feature that connects users with eco-friendly transport options. To support this initiative, Togo’s PickApp is also rolling out a network of electric charging terminals at key locations in the country.
“Our app is designed to integrate car-sharing, and EV charging services, making it a comprehensive solution for electric mobility, starting in Lomé, we plan to scale our services to major cities across Africa, enabling more people to transition to EVs while building critical charging infrastructure”” said Joseph Olurin, CEO of PickApp.
PickApp’s ambitious roadmap includes deploying 1,000 electric vehicles by 2030, with the pilot serving as a testing ground to refine its offerings. The initiative aims to reduce emissions, improve air quality, and lower carbon footprints across West Africa. The Togolese startup focuses on creating socio-economic impact by generating jobs and tackling youth unemployment in underserved communities.

“This pilot is a vital step in achieving our vision of sustainable and inclusive mobility,” Olurin explained. “Our project goes beyond reducing emissions—it’s about empowering communities, fostering economic development, and building a greener future for West Africa.”
PickApp is launching its pilot phase, positioning itself to drive Africa’s electric vehicle revolution with an innovative model that combines sustainability and accessibility to tackle regional environmental and socio-economic challenges.
